Thank you Goldman Sachs! This month, 20+ employees from Goldman Sachs volunteered their time at Camp Liberty as part of their annual Community Team Works Project. Volunteers worked tirelessly to paint lunch tables and benches, mulch and weed flower beds, and stain our new trellis. Thanks to these kind folks, we are now one step closer to being ready for the 2015 Camp Liberty Season!
On Saturday, May 3rd, over 40 volunteers from Jersey Cares arrived at Camp Liberty to help prepare the grounds for the 2015 Camp Liberty season. Volunteers spent over 3 hours repainting park and pool benches, painting dressing and restrooms, weeding our gardens, and cleaning dead foliage off of the shuffle board courts. Thank you JerseyCares!
This past Saturday, over 150 members of the Jersey City community came to Camp Liberty for some Halloween Fun! Festivities included pumpkin decorating, scary stories, DIY Treat-or-Treat bags, and ghoulish games such as a mummy relay race and apple bobbing. The afternoon ended with an adorable costume parade, where we watched tiny villains, heroes, animals, and other fun characters strut their stuff! A good time was had all around. We hope you join us for next year’s celebration!
Our first Camp Liberty Pool Party Wednesday was a blast for all involved! Campers from all sessions and their families had the chance to come swim in the pool, play on the playground, get to know eachother and meet some Camp Liberty staff! We’re looking forward to the next two Pool Party Wednesdays on July 30th and August 13th from 5:30-7:30pm. We’ll see you there!
This year, the Educational Arts Team and Camp Liberty partnered with the Bayshore Center at Bivalve to offer two sunset sailing events on June 27th and July 11th. Campers and their families, staff members, board members, JC Officials, and supporters mixed and mingled as the AJ Meerwald sailed around the Statue of Liberty at sunset. Guests got to hoist the sails, learn the history of the famous oyster schooner, dissect a live oyster, and make a model of ocean floor pollution!
Thank you so much to the guests of these events, as well as to the staff of the Bayshore Center and the AJ Meerwald crew for helping to create two memorable events!
Once again our friends at New Jersey Cares visited Camp Liberty with over 50 volunteers from the NBA Cares internship program. Equipped with hand drills, rakes, top soil, lumber and more, the volunteers spent their day constructing 10 camp benches, 2 herb and vegetable garden beds and weeded two major gardens that were in much need of attention. A job that would have taken our maintenance staff weeks to complete was finished in just a few short hours! We have been fortunate enough to receive the generosity and support of Jersey Cares twice this season, and there may be a possibility of another return visit before the summer is through. On behalf of our staff and campers, we extend our sincerest thanks to Jersey Cares for their continued outstanding support of our goal to enhance and beautify the camp grounds.
Well, it’s hard to believe but here we are – Summer! And here at the Educational Arts Team, summertime means one thing…CAMP LIBERTY!
